The Long haired Dachshund
The final variety of Dachshund dogs is the
long haired. Long haired Dachshunds are
thought to be a smooth haired Dachshund that was crossed
with either a Spaniel or a German Stoberhund. The coat of
this variety of dog is similar to that of an Irish Setter,
which is slightly wavy and longer on the underside of the
dog.
Some pet owners claim that this variety is much gentler and quieter, compared to the wire haired Dachshund which is energetic and lively.From personal experience I can only agree with this. The one Longhaired Badger dog that was in my sister’s family was really a very dull one. Ok, I guess some people would call it just “sweet and quiet”.
There came another Dachshund joining later on wich was clearly a mix of probably a long haired and a wire haired Dachshund and that one was lively! Always running and playing and goofing around. I sometimes felt sad for the dull one cause it kept being pestered all the time by this “big bully”.
Long haired Dachshunds come in a variety of colors as well, including red or cream, black or even brindled.
So, although there are never guarrantees of course, if you are looking for a very friendly, quiet and easy going dog you might seriously start thinking towards Long haired Dachshunds.
