The Wire Haired Dachshund
The most common type of Dachshund dog that
everyone thinks of is the smooth hair. But there are also two
other varieties to this breed.
The first is the wire haired
Dachshund which appeared in the late 19th century,
following the smooth haired and long haired varieties. The wire
haired Dachshund will be happiest in a decent sized back yard
as this dog enjoys chasing small animals, digging holes and
playing games with family members.
The wire haired has a long, low muscular fram
that’s covered in short, hard outer-coat and a soft undercoat.
It also comes in a variety of colors including all black and
tan, dark gray and various shades of red.
Never let him out of your sight!
As Dachshund dogs generally are known to be
stubborn and can just refuse to listen, this can even be a
worse problem for this type of Dachshund. Although it’s playful
and energetic character can be a joy having around, it can also
give you some headaches here.
You might need to pay some extra attention on
your wire haired Dachshund when taking it for a walk in the
woods for example. Because they are known not to just chase
little animals but to even follow them in their holes. They may
follow a rabbit in it’s hole for example. And then go so far
until they get stuck. This is of course very hazardous for the
dog if you can’t find it in time.
But yes, if you are looking for an energetic
and lively kind of small dog, the Wire Haired
Dachshund might definitely be for
you!
