of when a dog will start barking. Pleas read on if you want
some guiding on how to stop your dog from
barking when the boss is away from home.
How do I stop my dog from barking when I'm not home?
This is something almost every dog owner will have to deal
with in an early stage: When leaving your house, your dog
starts to bark and will keep barking and barking and barking.
Not seldom you won’t even know this until the moment an angry
neighbour rings your doorbell.
Now for some people who are first time dog owners this can
be a big question mark! They can’t think of a way on how to get

Too much attention.
A common mistake to make is paying too much attention to
your dog when going to leave the house. Calling it, petting it.
Giving lots of attention to let it know “everything will be
alright”as it were.
The dog however does not see it as a goodbye. It just sees
it as attention. And the moment you will leave the door, it
will miss that attention and hence starts barking. It needs you
back.
Young dogs want attention and attention and attention. So if
you want to stop your dog from barking you start with not
giving it any real attention before you leave the house. Just a
quick pet on the head or just a wave goodbye. Then just leave
the house.
Practice makes perfect.
As with everything you need to practice this as well. Learn
your dog little by little to be on it’s own. It has to learn
you will be back and nothing’s wrong. So you start with leaving
the house.
Don’t give it much attention as mentioned above. Go out the
door. Close the door behind you but stay behind the door and
wait for a while. If the dog starts barking, wait a minute or
two. If it doesn’t stop, go inside again and let it know with a
firm voice saying “NO!”.
To stop your dog from barking, this is something you will
have to repeat. Stay away a little longer every time and the
dog will eventually understand you will be back and everything
is fine.
Keep your dog busy.
Another simple tip to prevent dog barking problems when
leaving home, is to give it a toy. One reason for a dog to
start barking is simply because it is bored. So giving it
something to do while home alone will help to stop your dog
from barking.
Now these are just some simple examples on how to make a dog
stop barking. And these are just for the most common dog
barking problems. But there are other reasons your dog may be
barking a lot. And you may need more extended and professional
help with that.
Just be sure of one thing: As with everything concerning dog
training, you have to be patient! Be patient and be stern at
all times. Your dog must know you’re in charge.
