Addressing Dog Behaviour
Problems
Acquiring a dog is quite easy to do
these days. The trouble begins once they enter the house.
Dog behaviour problems should be sorted out as
early as possible before the puppy gets too big and creates a
disaster.
Dealing with the problem while it
is still small
In reality, a puppy really is
adorable, but if it has an attitude, it should be corrected
immediately. This is the best way to tackle it.
The pet should understand from the
start who is the boss. If this is not established, you will
have a hard time trying to correct it later – that is, if you
still can.
Teach them while they’re
young
A basic answer to dog behaviour
problems is to teach your pet to follow commands while it is
still young, or if it is older, starting on the very day that
it enters your house. More than half the problems you will
encounter in the first few days will be solved using this
method.
Teaching the puppy the simple dos
and don’ts will be embedded in its mind and will always be
followed.
Different breeds, different
needs
As dogs differ in size and breeds,
so do their behaviours. Usually, consulting a professional
trainer for dog behaviour problems is a common way to handle
these types of problems.
The top one on the list is usually
too much or loud barking. Some breeds of dogs have a
tendency to bark at will at anything unusual they see or hear.
For them, this is normal, but for us it can be very
annoying.
Can you imagine if every time a dog
sees another person or animal, it starts to bark? Or when the
doorbell or phone rings, or someone knocks at the door, it will
bark again? Or when you have a visitor that visits – or
sometimes it’s even you that comes in – and it will bark
again.
If not addressed, every day will be
a barking day. And more than likely, sooner or later you will
have lots of complaints from neighbors as well.
One more thing that could become an
issue with dog behaviour problems is the dog
digging problem. Usually done in the yard, this concern is
quite complicated to correct, but very important.
Not only could the dog destroy
plants and landscapes, but also the electrical, gas and water
piping tubes that are found just a few inches below the ground.
This can cause serious problems and even a disaster.
Also, any holes that a dog creates
can be hazardous to people walking by, and could invite
accidents. Digging is usually done near the fence as the dog
tries to escape by going under it. Once the dog gets out, it
could harm others if it bites them, or hurt itself if it gets
hit by a passing vehicle.
With several pets around you could
also have aggressive dog
behaviour problems regarding the food they will eat. Some
dogs have a survival instinct. Even you can’t fool around when
they are eating.
Be sure to caution the children not
to go near eating dogs, especially aggressive dogs. Start dealing
with this sort of behaviour problem immediately. A dog should
always know it’s place. Even when eating, you should always be
in charge.
Don’t forget to put the food down
in different areas for different pets so they will not have
problems while eating.
