Taking Remedial Steps

Because barking is very annoying, the owner tends to give the dog something to make it stop. To some extent, this is one way of stopping it, but it is not the proper way. Sooner or later, the dog will think that what he is doing is right and will do it again to gain something in return.

It should be understood by the dog that constant barking is not acceptable behavior. Shouting at the dog when it is barking will only aggravate the situation and now both of you are making a lot of noise.

While I was sitting down and waiting for my friend’s uncle, I felt a pair of eyes on me, and found that there was a big black dog in the next open room just laying there and staring at me. I thought it was tied up, but when the owner called, it stood up and walked outside with not even a bark. I was impressed with the kind of training it had.

If a dog keeps on barking without any unusual events happening, chances are it is hungry or not feeling well. Maybe it caught something in its feet while you were out walking or got wounded while playing around.

You should be aware and sensitive enough to check why it is barking. Maybe the place where you housed the dog is right across the street from where your neighbors’ pet cat is housed. This problem also happens when you are out and the dog starts barking. Your neighbors will likely complain when you get back. To prevent this from happening, be sure to feed the dog before you leave.

Put adequate toys out so that the dog has something to do while you are gone. Once you return, never greet a barking dog. If you do, the dog could incorrectly assume that you like the barking. The dog should only be greeted when it is calm, so the next time it will behave that way and not be too noisy. Give rewards to the dog if it behaves in a positive way so it will do the same next time.
